Capricon 12

Days before the con Terry Bisson, who only months earlier had won a Hugo for Bears Discover Fire, was hospitalized with a potentially life-threatening condition.  We rallied.  Signed an enormous get-well scroll for him, sent it along with bunches of souvenirs.  Stan and Paul came in part to see their buddy Terry and wound up as sort of unofficial (and most welcomed) stand-ins for him.  A vivid memory: watching a tipsy Paul and Stan do a remarkable version of Tai Chi on the dance floor with oldies blaring.  The accommodations were less than ideal, e.g., Ops was in a coat closet (masquerading as either a submarine or a French cafe and failing miserably at both) and, though the hotel staff made some attempts to be welcoming, it was a doomed relationship.  Was it the belly-dancing or the monster mash?
